PORT DOUGLAS PLANTATION RESORT
- Daintree
Rainforest Australia
Daintree Cape Tribulation Rainforest is the oldest living
tropical rainforest in the world. The only area in the
world where the Rainforest meets the Reef.
The Daintree
Cape Tribulation National Park actually reaches a little
further, from the Mossman Gorge in the south to the Bloomfield
River in the north, a total of 17,100 hectares. It is
listed as a World Heritage protected area.
The Daintree Cape Tribulation National Park also includes
Daintree Village, a township 12 kilometres past the ferry
crossing on the southern bank of the Daintree River.
The Daintree Cape Tribulation National Park contains some of
the most rare and endangered species in the world.
The
Rainforest contains 65 per cent of Australia's fern species,
21 per cent of its cycad species, 37 per cent of its conifer
species, and 30 per cent of its orchid species. It is home to
50 per cent of the country's bird species, 30 per cent of its
marsupial species, 27 per cent of its frog species, 23 per
cent of its reptile species, 41 per cent of its freshwater
fish species, and 60 per cent of its butterfly species.
